Das Kontroller
General purpose MIDI controller
Das Kontroller is a general purpose MIDI controller that both transmits and receives MIDI messages. This allows the controller to be integrated with any type of software application through the use of MIDI messages.
The controller features 96 buttons with LED lights, as well as 8 faders. The controller is currently used as a hardware step-sequencer. The sequencer itself is implemented in software (as a VST plug-in), and the controller serves as a tactile interface that allows the user to create sequences on the fly as well as providing visual feedback through use of the LED lights. The advantage of implementing the sequencer-logic as a VST plug-in is that it allows for tight integration with host applications like Cubase. The sequencer will automatically sync to the tempo of the host. Furthermore, the state of the sequencer is saved together with the host project, thus providing instant recall of all settings. I'm planning to make a video to demonstrate the sequencer in action.
The hardware was created by Joakim Tysseng, while the software was written by me. We worked together on the design of the controller itself and also in working out a communication scheme.
